Facebook Friends

By Nora Quiason

When my nieces and nephews introduced me to Facebook, I didn't realize how much fun I would have rekindling old friendships and establishing new ones.

Friendships in social networks like Facebook are especially fun because of the opportunity to share your experiences, publish photos, learn new things or just hang out. You can be as close or as distant as you wish to be. You can play games, join clubs and virtual communities, or not. You choose the degree of your involvement. You could facebook several times a day or once a month or go away for a while, (but why would you want to and miss all the goings on.) Unlike talking on the phone, you need not play phone tag, worry about calling too late or at a bad time. You need not stay and visit if you don't feel like it and chances are you wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings. You can exchange recipes, share breaking news, Youtube highlights or other media happenings, or introduce your friends to each other. You can find old friends or make friends all around the world.

With any friendship,of course, comes responsibility. Remember to be kind and respectful. Have fun but be discrimminating on information you publish especially about friends, lest you inadvertently be hurtful. Share but not gossip. Remember, the www is precisely what it is and it is forever. Most of all, friend with love.

Facebook is indeed a great place to spend time. Once I thought of it as wasting time, and then I realized any time I spend enjoying myself is not time wasted at all.

My sentiments exactly. I feel connected to family in the Philippines and Australia and am finding more family scattered all over the world.
