Hayes Hamburger and Chili

Hayes Hamburger and Chili is one of those beloved eating establishment dinosaurs. Open 24 hours a day, Hayes sits on the corner of Vivion and Antioch Roads in Kansas City North, Missouri. Founded in 1955,it is a hole in the wall, ensconced in what appears to be half a diner trailer with original diner aluminum stools (12 in total)and 5 booths. Regulars claim their seats and their hamburgers (thin, grilled with onions), hot dogs or chili(choice of soupy or dry) while they chat with the cooks, (usually one, sometimes two.) Hamburgers are their forte, thin, made with fresh ground meat, cooked to order and smothered in onions. You may have to order two with fries, cheesy or not. Patrons either love the food or not, but the service is great, the camaraderie is fun and the place is a Kansas City original and one of a kind. Hayes Hamburger & Chili

It's sad that all too often these neighborhood diners are being replaced by the national chains, which offer the same boring menu from one side of the country to the other. I adore one-off places to eat and much prefer these to the chains, enjoying the taste of home cooking or unique tastes and flavors that I can't get anywhere else.
It's a good thing that I don't live closer, Nora.
I would be knocking the door down for those hamburgers and onions. Hopfully the onions are also fried.
Not healthy, but a little cheat is OK, once in awhile.
